School News

Delayed Opening for Sophomores and Seniors on May 16, 17, 18, & 19

NJSLA testing for Grades 9 and 11 will run in the morning from May 16-19. We are asking students in grades 10 and 12 to come in late for a 9:45am school start time. In order to help families who cannot transport their students at that time, SHSD will be running an additional bus run with combined stops to bring students from Bernardsville, P-G, and Far Hills for the later start time. Bedminster School District will be coordinating their own busing to BHS on these days. Bedminster and SHSD parents/guardians: Please click here to indicate interest in having your student take these later buses. SHSD or Bedminster will notify you where and what time to meet the bus in the morning. Please fill out the form by Tuesday, May 3rd to indicate interest in a late bus during NJSLA testing May 16-19.  

New Jersey State Learning Assessment

BHS is administering the Spring 2022 New Jersey State Learning Assessments the week of May 16th. These assessments meet federal assessment requirements for the year. Click here for more information and testing dates.

Math Lab at the BHS Media Center

The Math Lab at the BHS Media Center opened on May 2nd, 2022.  The Math Lab provides tutoring by BHS Math teachers offered on a drop-in basis (no appointment necessary). Students are expected to bring their notes and assignments.

New   Progress Reports

We are approximately one-half of the way through Marking Period 4. Please click here to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal and view current grades to track your student's progress. New     Fall Sports

Anyone interested in seeking approval to participate in Fall sports should review this sports memo, as it has details for all requirements that need to be submitted May 15 - June 15, 2022. 

New     Attention Students:  Summer Job Information

If you are looking for a summer job, check the "Job Opportunities" board in the Guidance Department. We have quite a few interesting and varied employment offerings - come check it out!

New     GI Go Fund:  Salute our Fallen

Please join the BHS staff this Memorial Day in honoring those who have served in our armed forces and who are no longer with us  The GI Go Fund works to support the military and their families with donations given. We will be placing flags outside our building in remembrance of our heroes the week of May 23, 2022.  As we salute our fallen, please consider "sponsoring" a flag in their honor.  Please click MemorialDayFlagForm to sponsor a flag and make an online donation by Monday, May 23rd. Suggested donations per flag are $5.  Please see Kelly Clark - [email protected] for any questions.

The Somerset Hills Education Association will award a scholarship(s) to a deserving senior(s) who has shown outstanding qualities of character, personality, academic record, extra-curricular participation and has exhibited self-initiative and self-help. Leadership Program Opportunity

The Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) program prepares students for a lifetime of leadership. Students spend 3 exciting days engaging in leadership development activities, collaborating with students from around the state, and exploring leadership from three perspectives: individual, group and society. HOBY helps students develop a strong sense of self and provides students with the skills to identify and solve problems in the community. The next seminar occurs on June 10-12, 2022, scheduled at Kean University. Interested students should submit a 100 word essay on why they would like to attend this program. One finalist and one alternate will be selected by a committee to attend this leadership conference. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 13th. Please reach out to the guidance office staff with questions.


Webinar: An Overview of Recognizing Eating Disorders in Children and Teens

Atlantic Health System’s Goryeb Children’s Hospital will be hosting a free webinar Disordering Eating: When Should You Be Concerned? on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 6:00pm. Meghan Feehan, PsyD, Clinical Psychology, Pediatric Eating Disorders, Atlantic Health System and Stephanie Levine, DO, FAAP, Adolescent Medicine, Pediatric Eating Disorders, Atlantic Health System will discuss the signs and symptoms of disordered eating in children and teens, treatment options and resources available. Questions are encouraged. All school personnel and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Thank you to everyone who attended or viewed Wednesday evening's Board Meeting. The 2022-2023 budget as well as the Strategic Plan were approved by the board at this meeting. Our board attorney continued her ongoing "Law Talks" series with a presentation on Teacher Tenure which can be viewed by clicking here. Catalyst's ACT Bootcamp for Bernards is next weekend! This momentum building weekend seminar gives students the insight and confidence they need on the day of the test. Students will also leave with Catalyst's self-study materials for sustained practice right up until the test. Tuition for each Bootcamp is just $175. The ACT Bootcamp at BHS Saturday, June 2nd from 9am-1pm and Sunday, June 3rd from 9am-1pm.  Deadline is May 30th!
